Entry #1 My thoughts on Blogs

Today's entry is going to be all about blogs. What are they? How do they make me feel? How might they influence my very own blog (that you guys are just so lucky to be reading!)?

To start, I have never really had an interest in blogs, of any kind. If not for my current English class, I would probably still be able to say that I hadn't read any blogs. However, looking through and analyzing several blogs has helped me see that blogs are more than just personal journals. Today, I looked through tons of blogs, but I will only throw out my opinion on three of them.

Starting with Far Out Magazine, a blog about music, travel, art, and film, all mostly of the independent, or "indie", category. When I saw what they were about, it piqued my interest, leading me to check them out. You are able to click on the separate categories and they were organized, both nice things, but it seemed almost bland for what they are. I am a very colorful person (literally and metaphorically), so maybe it's just not for me, but it just does not make me want to stay and read through entries.

The second blog I am choosing to share is one that is all about travel. The author of The Blonde Abroad is consistent with her style, in that the page is somehow simultaneously organized and chaotic, and she has a bubbly personality. The blog has plenty of links and drop-down options at the top to find what you are looking for and it is pleasing to the eye. But at some points when scrolling, some of it looked thrown at me and I could not figure out where to focus my attention. She had very good and helpful entries that were fairly enjoyable to read through, but there was just a lot to it, and sometimes it was distracting.

Now I know I am making it seem like it's impossible to get blogs right with me, but I did end up finding a happy medium, called ONE. ONE is a magazine about clean fashion and sustainability. They care about the environment, and our future. Like their brand, their page is clean-cut, easy to look through, and extremely pleasant to look at. There was not much that I didn't like about this blog.

While reading these blogs did not make me want to read more blogs, it did help me understand more about them. I now have a better idea of how to integrate my personality and style into my writing.

In a way, they have made Zila (me!) Inspired. 😉

Signing off,

Zila
