Entry #7 Fresh Thoughts
Hello all!
In my English class this semester, we recently watched a film titled Fresh. We watched it in preparation of one of our essays that we would be required to write.
I was asked the questions; "Have you ever thought about the food you eat and where it comes from? I mean, really, really thought about it? Questioned it? Considered it?". My answer is "not really".
On occasion, or with specific foods, I wanted to know or had a thought fly by about where it might've come from, but I always avoided finding any answers because I knew that if I did not like the answer, there was a good chance that I would no longer be able to enjoy the foods I wanted and liked.
While I was watching the film, nothing really stood out to me or caught my interest, other than seeing things with the animals like the chicks just being tossed to the ground. It did not make me think of anything, other than possibly Charlotte's Web but that is most likely because of the farm animals. I know that the film and the likes of it are important, that they matter to some people, like the ones who made it or people who share their feelings and thoughts. However, it did not intrigue me, nor did it change my way of thinking. I am similar to lots of Americans in the way that I would prefer blissful denial to worrying or caring about this. I think that theoretically, we should at least try to care. We should watch this film, and many others like it, and try to get in contact with the people we can help or who can help us. We should think about the future generations and how our decisions affect them, but I also know that even if some of us do, not everybody would be willing to give up their luxurious lifestyles or give it a second thought, for "Americans fear only one thing. Inconvenience." (Fresh, 2009). I hope this gives you something to think about tonight.
Signing off,
Zila
